Statistics are most often revised for 1 of 2 reasons:

  1. For certain statistics initial estimates are released with the expectation that these may be revised and updated as further data becomes available.
  2. Revisions may also be made when methods or systems are changed.

These types of planned revisions should not be confused with errors in released statistics, which are genuine mistakes. Such mistakes occur rarely and, when they do happen, corrections are made in a timely manner, announced and clearly explained to users in line with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics (Principle 2, Practice 7).

Correction See correction
The quarterly personal well-being data for October to December 2023 and January to March 2024 were corrected because of an incorrect merge of two local authorities (LAs) across regional boundaries. This error arose during calibration of weighting partitions, where low sample sizes in the Annual Population Survey (APS) led to merging LAs to improve data reliability. Data for April to June 2024, July to September 2024 and October to December 2024 were corrected following an adjustment to APS weights, identified during a review ahead of survey reweighting. The issue involved non-response adjustments for boost cases. The impact on estimates from both corrections is minimal. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
