Our recently published 2025 mid-year population estimates for England re-scaled for the years 2026 to 2050 using 2024-based national population projections (England dataset, principal projection).
This combination of existing and updated population data has been compiled to assist users requiring an improved link between the latest population estimates and trends in the national population projections than is possible from the 2022-based subnational population projections for England. The table in this release provides population data by single year of age and sex for English local authorities.
There were two data sources used: the national population projections from which scaling factors were derived and the mid-year estimates which the scaling factors were applied to from mid-2025 onwards. The resulting data therefore applies the national single year of age and sex change in the national population projections across all English local authorities and is therefore not a bottom-up projection directly reflecting assumed local authority population change.
