Due to a processing error, a minor correction has been made to Table 2.05: Average spending in £ per visit and per day by region of residence and purpose of visit and Table 2.12: Average spending in £ per visit to UK and per day by country of residence. This correction was made for the years 2019 and 2023.

There is an error affecting the way we assign destination airport information for air passengers in Travel trends estimates: overseas residents in the UK, 2024 edition of the dataset. We plan to correct this error in early October 2026. Please contact travel.and.tourism@ons.gov.uk for more information.

About this Dataset

Annual estimates of overseas residents’ visits and spending. Also includes data on nights, purpose, region of UK visited and mode of travel. Breakdowns by nationality and area of residence are covered. In 2019, new methods were introduced for this dataset. The 2009 to 2019 edition supersedes all previous time series editions of this dataset. We advise against using all editions listed before the 2019 edition.
