UK manufacturers' sales by product: 2025

• The total value of UK manufacturers' product sales was £452.0 billion in 2025, a decrease of £8.3 billion (negative 1.8%) from £460.3 billion in 2024.
• The manufacture of food remained the largest division and represented 22.9% of total manufacturers' sales in 2025.
• The manufacturing of fresh or chilled cuts of beef and veal showed the largest value increase, up by £955 million (15%) in 2025 to £7.3 billion.
• Motor vehicles with only a petrol engine over 1,500 cubic centimetres remained the highest value product within the UK, with sales of £16.0 billion; however, sales fell by 23.1% in 2025.
• Other selected products showing noticeable increases were prepared meals and dishes based on meat, meat offal or blood, which increased by £818 million (38.3%) in 2025 to £3.0 billion, and repair and maintenance of civil aircraft and civil aircraft engines, up by £456 million (14.1%) to £3.7 billion.

Sources and collection

ProdCom estimates are based on a sample of businesses surveyed annually. Data are collected from approximately 21,500 businesses, covering 240 subsectors of the mining, quarrying and manufacturing industry sectors, and collects data on approximately 3,900 products.

All figures quoted are in current prices and, therefore, do not account for inflation.

It is sometimes necessary to suppress figures for certain products to avoid disclosing information about an individual business. The ProdCom technical report describes the methods used to safeguard the information provided to us in confidence. Our commentary must also avoid disclosing information about individual businesses.

ProdCom estimates are designated as accredited official statistics, which means that the data are produced in compliance with the Code of Practice for Statistics.

For Division 19 (coke and refined petroleum products), only one product (pitch and pitch coke, obtained from coal tar or from other mineral tars) is included. This product is in one industry (19100: the manufacture of coke oven products) and there have been no businesses specifically classified to this industry in the ProdCom publication since 2015.

For Division 24 (the manufacture of basic metals), estimates for the manufacture of basic iron and steel, and of ferro-alloys, are not included in the overall UK ProdCom sales figures or in the divisional total.

Because of disclosure issues, we have combined Divisions 11 and 12 (beverages and tobacco) to allow for estimates at this level of aggregation to be made available.

Quality and methodology

The ProdCom survey methodology is outlined in our UK Manufacturers' Sales by Product Survey (Prodcom) quality and methodology information and in the ProdCom technical report. Standard errors are available for most products, to inform users of the precision of the estimates. The 2025 estimates are based on a response rate of 78.4%.

Future Developments

We have updated our UK Standard Industrial Classification: 2026 (SIC26) framework to better reflect changes in the UK economy and improve measurement of modern industrial activity. Although this framework was finalised in April 2026, it will not be used in our statistics right away, as preparation is needed to ensure changes are introduced consistently and without disruption to the continuity of our time series.

We are now developing an updated UK classification of products (CPA) framework. This update will affect both this release and other ONS statistics that compile data based on the CPA classification. Where possible, we are looking to maintain consistency between the new SIC26 and CPA frameworks. We are also working to determine the best level of detail that we should capture as part of our ProdCom survey.
