This bulletin presents figures for avoidable mortality in the UK for 2014 to 2017. Figures are based on a revised definition of avoidable mortality introduced in 2014.

  Deaths from causes that are considered avoidable in the presence of timely and effective healthcare or public health interventions. Data are based on a revised definition of avoidable mortality (introduced in data year 2014) for all persons and a separate indicator for children and young people.

• Avoidable mortality by Clinical Commissioning Groups in England and Health Boards in Wales

  Annual age-standardised mortality rates for causes considered avoidable, treatable and preventable by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) in England and Health Boards in Wales, 2001 to 2022. Data for England are presented for ICBs for years 2021 and 2022, and for CCGs for 2001 to 2020.

• Avoidable mortality in England and Wales – supplementary data tables

  Supplementary annual data for England and Wales for 2001 to 2022: standardised years of life lost (SYLL) because of causes considered avoidable; age-standardised avoidable, treatable and preventable mortality rates with and without deaths from ischaemic heart disease (IHD); and number of avoidable, treatable and preventable deaths by sex and age.

  Annual age-standardised mortality rates for causes considered avoidable, treatable and preventable by local authorities in England and unitary authorities in Wales from 2001 to 2003 to 2020 to 2022.
