Newport’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) is celebrating two prestigious awards.

The “Government Opportunities Infrastructure Procurement Project of the Year Award”, which recognises ONS for the procurement of a local small and medium-sized enterprise supplier to build the state-of-the-art ONS Data Science Campus, was part of a £17 million investment in UK national statistics.

Receiving the award, Chief Procurement Officer Scott Howell said: “The Data Science Campus is a central part of our long-term strategy and since opening in March is already building world-leading expertise in the innovative application of data science. We needed a fitting environment for this work and through the procurement team we secured local suppliers who designed a modern, innovative space that was delivered at pace."

Meanwhile ONS’s Head of Assurance and Risk, Rich Williams was awarded “Risk Manager of the Year” for the CIR Magazine Risk Awards 2017. ONS Director for Business Services and Development, Neil Wooding said: “This award is fitting recognition for the excellent work Rich does in the ever-important area of risk management for ONS.”
