Manufacturing businesses by category of product, in Scotland, of sizes 0-4, 5-49, 50-99, 100-149, 150-199, 200-249, 250+ employees
Logistics businesses involved in transport of goods, predominantly HGV categories, not important in terms of what kind of product, in Scotland, of sizes 0-4, 5-49, 50-99, 100-149, 150-199, 200-249, 250+ employees
I'm predominantly interested in the number of companies within these categories, for manufacturing I'd like to find out by sectors as an example, food, alcohol, textiles, chemical, technology, technology (space) ect, I'm not sure what categories would be available but it is extremely important to find out in particular about chemicals and plastic producers in comparison to other manufacturers in Scotland.

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request enquiring the number of manufacturing businesses by specific employee size-bands.
For information, ONS produce an annual publication called UK Business: Activity, size and location. This publication breaks down the number of UK Businesses (registered for VAT and/or PAYE) by geography, employment size-band, industry and legal status. It is created using an extract of the Inter Departmental Business Register (IDBR) taken on 10 March 2023.
The information you have requested would need to be created by our IDBR data service team via idbrdas@ons.gov.uk. Such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources, and agreement of costs in line with the ONS Charging Policy.
As this information is reasonably accessible via another route, even if only accessible on payment, Section 21(2)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) applies.
