Thank you for your enquiry.

We are responsible for the provision of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

Annual numbers of deaths and crude & age-standardised mortality rates for England and Wales, 1938 to 2019 (final) and 2020 (provisional) are available here: Annual deaths and mortality rates, 1938 to 2020 (provisional). This publication includes rates but not percentages. Age standardised rates represent deaths per 100,000 population. If you wish to calculate percentages then you can do so using the published data. Alternatively, special extracts and bespoke tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales, up to 2019, are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate). Such enquiries fall outside of the Freedom of Information regime and should be made to: Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.
