Under the FOIA, I would like to be advised of the number of people that included "European" as their national identity in the 2021 Census data.

For ease of processing, this can be restricted to only covering online returns that are currently held.

Thank you for your Freedom of Information enquiry as to the number of people that included 'European' as their national identity in the 2021 Census.

Census 2021 is still in the collection phase of the operation. Data processing has not yet taken place, and the first release of statistical outputs is scheduled for spring 2022.

ONS is currently developing output products that will be made available to users, including supporting information. This involves carrying out user research, internally and externally, which will continue through to the release of census outputs. This will help inform the products to be produced and when they will become available.

We plan to consult on the timing of output products in summer 2021 and then make an indicative release schedule available as part of our Census Outputs Prospectus in autumn/winter 2021.

More information about outputs from Census 2021 can be found here.
