Please could you let me know:

  1. How many defendants were tried in criminal court cases in Wales in 2023?
  2. How many of these defendants were female?
  3. How many of these defendants were male?

Thank you for your enquiry. 

Unfortunately, we do not hold the data you have requested. We publish statistics from two main sources; the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and Home Office police recorded crime, which concerns crime as it is experienced by victims or as it is recorded by the police. We do not publish statistics on court cases or defendants. 

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) are primarily responsible for data involving the courts and publish criminal justice statistics for England and Wales on a quarterly basis which may be of use to you. Should you require further assistance, the MoJ can be contacted at the following email address: ESD@justice.gov.uk.
