You asked

In the David Norgrove IfG interview of 7 March, Sir David said that the government "had given £180m over three years to build an integrated data service". Please explain where the funding for the IDS can be found in ONS/UKSA accounts and public expenditure announcements/settlements. Please also direct me to the public announcements allied to this and papers explaining how and when this money will be spent.

Thank you for your enquiry.

The Integrate Data Service (IDs), delivered by ONS in partnership with partners across government, is a multi-year programme that forms part of the government major project portfolio (GMPP). The programme will transform the way data are shared across the government digital landscape.

There have been multiple mentions of this in the public domain, including those below, and as the programme (and service) develops, we plan to issue many more as well as consulting with the public:

The £180m IDS funding that has been referred to, relates to costs that will be incurred in the 3 years from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2025. As those costs have not yet been incurred, they have not featured in the UK Statistics Authority's (UKSA) published accounts to date. The UKSA's 2022/23 accounts will be the first to incorporate the £180m IDS funding and is due to be published in June/July 2023.

Although not disaggregated by programme spend, UKSA's funding settlement for the 3 years from 1 April 2022, which IDS funding forms part of, can be found on pages 129 & 130 of the Autumn Budget and Spending Review 2021 document.

Also, the UKSA is due to publish its refreshed business plan in the summer 2022 which will cover IDS in more detail. Once published, the refreshed business plan will appear on the UKSA website here.
