FOI/2022/4373

You asked

I would like to request the Unrevised UK House Price Index Arithmetic mean, as used in the RPI House Depreciation for 2022 and also, if possible, the associated region, and property-type weights, prices, and sales volumes.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

On 18 August 2022 we published the arithmetic mean version of the House Price Index (HPI) for Great Britain used in the RPI house depreciation index: House Price Index - unrevised arithmetic mean for Great Britain, January 2017 to June 2022 - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk). This dataset includes unrevised data from January 2017 to June 2022.

We aim to publish this dataset on a monthly basis following the release of the headline UK House Price Index (though the timing of the release can vary slightly depending on other priorities).

The sales volumes are published on a monthly basis via our standard UK HPI publication: UK House Price Index: data downloads June 2022 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). However, please note that the delay associated with data collection affects the most recent months and as such, the two most recent months of sales volumes are therefore omitted from the published data to avoid reporting misleading volumes. (It is also worth noting that there is currently an issue on the HM Land Registry website when downloading datasets, with the current work around being to copy the link from the dataset into the search bar).

The unrevised UK arithmetic mean version of the HPI is only held for Great Britain. Unfortunately, a further breakdown of this information at regional level and property type is not held, as this information would need to be created using a high level of skill and judgement. Public authorities are not obliged to create new information in response to FOI requests. The information therefore is not held.

If you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to get in touch via our inbox (hpi@ons.gov.uk).
