You asked

I was wondering if it would be possible for you to provide me with some data regarding the published records by yourselves on domestic violence / abuse recorded.

I have seen the latest published data and wondered if you could provide a breakdown of the number of domestic abuse cases that were recorded, whereby:

A) It was a male victim of female perpetrator

B) It was a female victim of male perpetrator

C) It was a male victim of male perpetrator, and

D) It was a female victim of a female perpetrator

If you hold this information, please could you provide the annual records for the last 5 years period (i.e. in response to A-D above broken down into years: 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 to date/latest published figures).

Thank you for your request.

Unfortunately, we do not hold information on perpetrators of crime. Crime statistics published by ONS generally relate to victims of crime rather than perpetrators and convictions. The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) are primarily responsible for data on convictions and may be better placed to answer your query around this data. You can contact them directly to enquire about the data you need at ESD@justice.gov.uk.

Data on domestic abuse-related incidents recorded by the police are held by the Home Office. They may be able to help you with a victim-perpetrator breakdown. You can contact them at: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.

You may also find the sources referenced in our Violence against women and girls: Data landscape useful. This contains a comprehensive list of data sources on domestic abuse and other violent offences from various sources across government and the third sector. This includes data sources relating to perpetrators of domestic abuse and other violent offences, for example the Crown Prosecution Service data: VAWG data tables, year ending March 2021. This contains information on the sex of defendants. You can contact the Crown Prosecution Service directly via enquiries@cps.gov.uk if you have any questions about this data.
