Thank you for your enquiry.

Using the NOMIS webservice, you can filter and extract ICD-10 causes for the 15-19 age group from 2014 to 2020. Further disaggregation of these ICD-10 chapters is available on the website by following these instructions.

  • Select Geography, choose Countries ALL for England and Wales including non-residents or specific countries. Local authority level is available, please use the search bar to select.
  • Click Date and tick required dates or ALL for 2013-2020 range.
  • NOMIS automatically selects total ages, if you require Age disaggregation please tick the selected 5-year age bands.
  • NOMIS automatically selects number of deaths, if you require rates or percentages please tick this manually.
  • NOMIS automatically selects Total, if you require disaggregation by sex please tick boxes for male and female.

  • Underlying cause - In the search bar type insert ICD-10 codes or select Leading cause codes (LC). Alternatively,  select "ICD-10" list and expand insert starting letter of ICD10 codes (J) for example for flu  and select manually. (Amend to leading cause if applicable)
  • Click format if you require CSV download, if you require Excel format you do not need to follow this step.
  • Click Download the data.

The extract is attached for your information.

If this does not meet your needs, we can create a custom output using provisional data, however this will be subject to change. Information on deaths by specific ICD-10 code and age group, along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate).

2021 data

The full ICD-10 breakdown is not yet available for 2021 data, this is to allow the inclusion of late registrations which are deaths which have been referred for Coroner investigation. The Deaths Registered Series is scheduled to be published in July 2022 and this data will be available on NOMIS.

However, for 2021 data, we can create a custom output using provisional data, however this will be subject to change. Information on deaths by ICD-10 chapter for ages 15-19, along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate).
