1.Please supply by email the deaths solely by influenza when influenza is the only cause of death listed on the death certificate?
2.Please break it down by age group and gender between February 2020 and December 2021?
3.Please supply by email the number of autopsies carried out on those where influenza was the only cause of stated for the period February 2020 to December 2021?

Thank you for your enquiry.
Unfortunately, we do not hold analysis of the number of deaths solely due to influenza, or the number of autopsies carried out for deaths where influenza was the sole condition, for deaths registered between February 2020 to December 2021. To fulfil your request, we would need to create bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to FOI requests.
However, bespoke tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales, are available to order, subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate. Such enquiries would fall outside of the Freedom of Information regime and should be made to: Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.
Annual numbers of deaths due to influenza:
In case it is of interest, the latest numbers of deaths due to influenza or pneumonia (ICD-10 codes J09 to J18 combined) are available for England and Wales for 2021 and 2022 in our weekly deaths publication. You can view the datasets here. Please note that whilst data are still provisional, we only publish combined totals for these causes.
Finalised numbers of deaths due to influenza by sex and age group for England and Wales, 2013 to 2020, are available via NOMIS.
