We are looking for:

  • firefighter employed by the UK government (I think, classified under 3313 and 1173 (but covering fire only, and excluding ambulance or prison) or SOC90: 1530 and 6110).

  • Will it be also possible to provide us with the extra column containing employer information (for example MOD or aviation firefighters work in a private sectors)?

  • results separated by the gender: male and female

  • geography code (region)

  • ICD codes (for cancers and diseases) (split for female and male)

  • results broken down by age ranges as specified below (separate for male and female)

  • data for each year from 2000-2021 (split by the gender and age)

  • can you also clarify if you include in your classification (SOC code) retained duty system firefighters (on-call) and fire control (operators)?

Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately, we have not conducted analysis on these specific occupation classifications

We hold deaths due to cancer within our 21st Century Mortality Data set, Deaths Registered Series and on our interactive webservice NOMIS.  Disaggregation by age and sex are available in these data sets.

Our NOMIS webservice provides a breakdown of deaths for ICD-10 code by requested geography, sex and age if you wish to look for a specific type of cancer.

Using the following instructions, you can request your own data breakdown.

  • Select the geography (England and Wales, regional or by local authority).
