Thank you for your request.

In December 2021, we published the following analysis: Population estimates by ethnic group and religion, England and Wales: 2019. This publication builds on previous research and user feedback and was published in response to the need for more timely population estimates by ethnic group and religion.  These are experimental statistics of population by 18 ethnic groups and 8 religious groups by age and sex at the national and regional level for England and Wales only. As experimental statistics, they are official statistics but will be subject to further testing in terms of quality and ability to meet user needs.

The best official source for population estimates by ethnic group for the United Kingdom (UK) is the 2011 Census. The Ethnic group [KS201UK] table has breakdown of the population of the whole of the UK as at census day, 27 March 2011, by 11 ethnic group categories (or classifications).

In November 2022, we published the following data on this topic: Ethnic group, England and Wales from Census 2021.

Censuses took place in England and Wales, and Northern Ireland in March 2021. Scotland's census took place in March 2022. We are working closely with UK census offices to publish comparable data from across the UK.
