You asked

I would like to make a request for data in relation to the average cost of living for a two person household in the UK between 2008 to 2019.

Thank you for your query.

Average weekly household expenditure with a split by household composition is given in Table A23, which currently sits within Workbook 2 of our data tables. This table includes a number of columns relating to two-person households:

  • Two-adult households where the Household Reference Person (HRP) is retired and mainly dependent on state benefits
  • Two-adult households where the HRP is retired and not mainly dependent on state benefits
  • Two adult households where the HRP is not retired

The most recent table reports for the financial year ending 2019 and tables for earlier years (back to fye 2001) can be accessed from the 'Annex' tab of the spreadsheet. Please note that Family Spending tables report on a calendar year basis between 2006 and 2014, and on a financial year basis otherwise.

Bespoke data tables based on Living Costs and Food Survey data can be requested from LCF_Enquiries@ons.gov.uk; depending on the nature of the request, work may be chargeable with rates as detailed on our website.
