Please supply the number of Pakistani nationals and British Nationals of Pakistani origin living in the UK by region.
We said
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request asking for the number of Pakistani nationals and British Nationals of Pakistani origin living in the UK by region.
The following datasets show the numbers of people with Pakistan as their country of birth, and with Pakistani nationality, living in each region of the UK. Please use the Population of the UK by country of birth and nationality: individual country data.
Under July 2020 to June 2021 edition of this dataset, click on and open the xls spreadsheet, then click on the Table B tab – Population resident in the United Kingdom by individual country of birth (L to Z), the figures for Pakistan are in column BU. Next, select Table D tab - Population resident in the United Kingdom by individual nationality (L to Z), the figures for Pakistan are in column BM.
However, it is important to note that there are some caveats to be minded when using these data, particularly due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on data collection. These are fully discussed in Section 2 Impact of coronavirus on these estimates, bulletin 25 November, but the key bits to bear in mind are as follows:
- There's a new weighting methodology to adjust for non-response bias caused by changes to data collection due to the pandemic
- This new weighting means that estimates for UK, EU and non-EU populations are more robust but there remains a high level of uncertainty around these numbers particularly below the EU and non-EU level
- This likely reflects that the methodological improvements were not targeted at these detailed levels and therefore should not be compared with previous years.
Additionally, later this year the results from Census 2021 will be published, which will include this information, not just by region, but by very small geographies, alongside other variables.
