Thank you for your enquiry.

Crime statistics published by us generally relate to victims rather than offenders of crime. The publication Sexual offences in England and Wales overview: year ending March 2020 contains analyses on sexual offences from the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and crimes recorded by police, which includes rape offences. Several of the appendix tables published alongside this release contain a breakdown by sex of the victim.

Nature of sexual assault by rape or penetration, England and Wales - tables 3 and 4 contain analysis from the CSEW on the age and sex of the perpetrator and victim of rape or assault by penetration. These tables are based on combined data from the year ending March 2017 and the year ending March 2020 to create a larger sample size. These questions are asked every three years in the 'Nature of sexual assault' survey module.

You can also find the number of 'rape of a male' offences recorded by police in the year ending December 2019 in can be found in Appendix table A4 in the Crime in England and Wales: Appendix tables, published alongside the statistical bulletin Crime in England and Wales: year ending December 2019.

In December 2018 we published the release Sexual offending: victimisation and the path through the criminal justice system, which is an overview of sexual offending in England and Wales, using a range of National Statistics and official statistics from across the crime and criminal justice system, which includes prosecutions. CPS table 1 within the Sexual offending: Crown Prosecution Service appendix tables, shows the sex of defendants and victims in rape prosecutions up to the year ending March 2018. We do not hold any more recent data than 2018, but you could contact the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) directly who may be able to provide more information. The CPS can be contacted at IAT@cps.gov.uk.
