You asked

Please could you supply me with excess death data from 2018 to 2022 present day?

We said

Thank you for your request

We hold the following analysis Excess deaths in England and Wales - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk) which provides data from March 2020 to June 2022, which is the latest analysis of excess deaths we have conducted.

As part of our Monthly Mortality analysis, we publish excess deaths against the 5-year average. For 2021 data, we use 2015 - 2019 data for the 5-year average and for 2022 data we use 2016 - 2019 and 2021 data. An explanation as to why we use this average is available in our Understanding excess deaths during a pandemic blog.

We have not conducted analysis of excess deaths prior to 2020, with the exception of our Excess Winter Mortality publications. Further information on excess deaths can be requested as bespoke analysis via our Health Analysis and Pandemic Insight (HAPI) Customer Services team. Such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources and agreement of costs. If you would like to request this bespoke dataset, please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk to discuss your enquiry further. Please note, there would be a charge for this work subject to our charging policy.

More information on our analysis plan for excess deaths can be found in our Excess deaths analysis plan.
