Please provide the following data:

  1. How many of the pre-trial detentions do not end with an indictment? In other words, against how many of the pre-trial detainees do you end up filing charges (including situations in which there was a time gap between the detention and the indictment)?

  2. What is the average time of a pre-trial detention in the UK?

Unfortunately, we do not hold data on arrests or pre-trial detentions.

The Home Office collects data regarding the outcomes assigned to offences recorded by the police. This data can be found in their publication Crime outcomes in England and Wales 2019 to 2020. The Ministry of Justice collect data on the criminal justice system and publish statistics on a quarterly basis regarding both criminal court and family court statistics. Within their quarterly publication Criminal court statistics quarterly: January to March 2020, there is data on the timeliness of the court system which may be helpful.
