Thank you for your Freedom of Information (FOI) request for:
1) the unemployment rate for Cherwell from the 1991, 2001 and 2011 national censuses and
2) the GDP data for Bicester town and surrounding area for the last 20 years.
Please see attached Excel file containing economic activity tables for Cherwell for the census years above. Provided are the full tables, rather than just the unemployment rate, to enable you to see the figures in context. We currently provide estimates of gross domestic product (GDP) and gross value added (GVA) by industry for sub-national areas of the UK down to local authority districts, but not for smaller areas. Bicester is a town within the district of Cherwell in Oxfordshire. Therefore, we have provided GDP figures for Cherwell, but not for Bicester itself.
GDP and GVA data for Cherwell can be found in the Regional economic activity by gross domestic product, UK: 1998 to 2018 release published on 19 December 2019.
Table 1 shows a range of GDP statistics for Cherwell, taken from this publication. Annual growth rates are shown for volume measures of GDP, which have been adjusted to remove the effect of price inflation. Current market prices show the value of GDP each year in the currency of the time.
