You asked

I am trying to research some information for market research purposes on the Isle of Wight. All the information I am looking is the latest figures to this current date.

I am looking for the current residential population of the Isle of Wight; if possible where on the Isle is the largest populus?

Is there a record of the number of dog owners on the Isle of Wight?

Or how many dogs on the Isle, micro-chipped?

Thank you for you Freedom of Information request asking for the population of the Isle of Wight, where is the largest population and for information about the number of dogs and how many of them are micro-chipped.

We publish mid-year population estimates of the population of the UK; with the latest for mid-2019. There are two versions of the latest data ('April 2019 local authority codes' and '2020 local authority codes'); the downloadable Excel file from either will provide the data you require as the Isle of Wight code did not change. On row 262 of worksheet MYE2-Persons you will the total number of people usually resident on thte Isle of Wight.

For lower levels of geography you may find the Nomis website useful as it enables you to tailor your enquiry to specific areas for which you require data.

In order to access these data, go on the Nomis website. Select 'Query Data' within the data downloads box, then select 'Population estimates/projections', then 'Population estimates - small area by single year of age'. Then select 'Geography' from the box on the left-hand side, then '2011 Output Areas' (or 'Wards'), then select 'Isle of Wight'  from the drop-down list at the top, then tick 'use maps to select areas' to the right-hand side of the drop-down list. On the map you can then zoom in on the area and select the output areas or wards which you consider make up the most populous area of the island. You can then download your data. Then you can do the same again for other towns and villages you are interested in.

Unfortunately, we do not hold data regarding the number of dogs on the Isle of Wight and how many of them might be micro-chipped.

When accessing any of our files please read the 'notes, terms and conditions' contained within them as they will help your understanding of them.
