Please provide the number of people who have died from influenza in the UK from Jan 2019 to November 2019 compared with how many died from influenza from Jan 2020 to November 2020.

We are responsible for mortality data for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. The annual number of deaths where influenza was the underlying cause, for England and Wales, can be obtained via NOMIS for 2013 to 2019. Influenza can be identified using ICD-10 codes J09-J11.
Provisional figures for deaths from influenza and pneumonia combined for 2020 (ICD-10 codes J09-J18) are available in the download file underneath Figure 2 of our Provisional weekly deaths publication.
Monthly breakdowns of deaths from influenza for 2019 and 2020 for England and Wales would need to be created as bespoke analysis. Monthly 2019 death data for influenza is available to commission as bespoke analysis. Such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources and agreement of costs. Monthly influenza figures for 2020 will be available to order after death registrations for last year are finalised in July 2021.
