In response to the following: https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/transparencyandgovernance/freedomofinformationfoi/numberofpeoplewhohavefailedtoreturnthe2021censusbyboroughandfinesissued

Where you have stated:

"Data collection for Census 2021 is still ongoing. We are working hard to ensure that people who have not yet taken part in the census are given the support and encouragement they need to complete the questionnaire. As data collection is ongoing and people are still able to respond, we do not hold a final figure for the number of households who have not completed a census return."

When will it be complete?

I request the data after the stated date.

"The Office for National Statistics (ONS) does not have the power to impose fines under the Census Act 1920. Fines can be imposed by the courts as a result of a successful prosecution, and the ONS works closely with the Crown Prosecution Service on bringing cases to court where necessary."

I am well aware of the court system. Please state how many people (and from which districts / towns) have been reported to the CPS for a consideration to prosecute.

How may prosecutions have resulted in fines?

Thank you for your request.

The last date that we will be accepting 2021 Census paper questionnaires for processing is the 9 July 2021. However, we will process 2021 Census data until next year. If you would like to know the number of fines imposed by the courts as a result of a successful prosecution for the 2021 Census, we would recommend getting back in contact with us later this year.

An exact number and geographic distribution of households reported to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) will not be known until the field operation is completed. Our planned upper limit for summons being issued is 2,500.
