We said

Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for the provision of mortality statistics for England and Wales. This is driven by the information supplied on the death certificate. National Records Scotland (NRS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively. Unfortunately, we do not hold the information you have requested.

The death certificate provides us with details as the cause/secondary cause, occupation, gender. However, we would not know if the deceased was pregnant at the time of death as this information is not collected. We would only be notified of a pregnancy if it was deemed to be a contributing factor to the death.

It may be possible to obtain this information from NHS Digital, they can be contacted via email at enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk.

If you would like to discuss your request further, please contact health.data@ons.gov.uk.
