You asked

Please supply the following information about people who have a positive PCR test:

  1. How many of these have any symptoms?

  2. How many go on to be hospitalised?

  3. How many are repeat tests:

    a. from the general public?

    b. from compulsory tests in the NHS and care homes?

  1. In the dataset accompanying our 30 June 2021 characteristics article, you can find the number and percentage of people testing positive for COVID-19 who reported symptoms on tab 3a.

  2. Unfortunately, we do not hold the data you have requested on hospitalisations after a positive Covid-19 test. NHS Digital and/or Public Health England (PHE) may be better placed to assist.   3. a) Our statistics refer to individuals in the community, by which we mean private households. These figures exclude infections reported in hospitals, care homes or other institutional settings. We collect data over time, so participants are invited to have repeat tests every week for the first five weeks as well as monthly for a period of 12 months in total. You can find response rates for the COVID-19 Infection Survey in the UK, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland on tabs 2a - 2e respectively in the technical dataset accompanying our latest bulletin.

    b) We do not hold information on repeat testing in NHS hospital settings or care homes. NHS Digital may be better placed to assist, which can be contacted via email at enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk, and by telephone at 0300 303 5678.
