Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales. This is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at info@nisra.gov.uk.

All the conditions mentioned on the death certificate are coded using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) the coded mortality data available up to end of December 2020 is coded to version 2014 of the ICD10 framework.

You can find the number of deaths involving adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccination in table 12 of our Monthly Mortality Analysis dataset. There are currently 4 deaths registered in England and Wales with the aligning ICD-10 code for this (U12.9). Please note, we do not hold details of the timeframe the death occurred in after receiving the vaccination as this information is not recorded on the death certificate.

Our COVID-19 Infection Survey is a household survey that estimates the number of people testing positive for infection and for antibodies in the UK. Our statistics refer to individuals in the community, by which we mean private households. These figures exclude infections reported in hospitals, care homes or other institutional settings.

You can find the number of people with a new positive infection after vaccination on tab 1a in the dataset accompanying our technical article on positivity after vaccination.

For further information and an overview of all the data published across the ONS, please check our ONS COVID Insights Tool.

Unfortunately, we do not hold data on adverse reactions to the COVID-19 vaccines and hospitalisations following the COVID-19 vaccine. Public Health England (PHE) may be better placed to assist with this query. They can be contacted via email at wn_coronavirus@phe.gov.uk.
