We are responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales, driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. In collaboration with these organisations, we publish headline UK data in our Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages publication. However, this analysis is not disaggregated by age. Therefore, we do not hold the requested information for the whole of the UK.

2000 - 2021 in England and Wales
We hold the following analysis, which provides annual data on deaths registered by age, sex and selected underlying cause of death: Deaths registered in England and Wales - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk).
Table 1b provides annual specific infant (under 1 years) deaths and neonatal (under 4 weeks) deaths from 1917 to 2020.
Table 5 (male) and Table 6 (female) provides deaths by single year of age by sex from 1963 to 2021. Table 7 provides combined totals by single year of age and by 5-year age group.
Infant deaths for 2021 will be published in February 2023 as part of our Child and infant mortality in England and Wales.
We hold the following analysis Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk) which publishes provisional death registrations every Tuesday by 5 year age band.
If the above publications do not meet your needs, we can create a user requested dataset. Special extracts and tabulations of mortality data are available to order from the Health Analysis and Pandemic Insight (HAPI) Customer services team.
