I was looking at the national statistics for Defence Departmental Resources (https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/defence-departmental-resources-index).
While I was looking at Worksheet 10 for MOD Expenditure on Consultancy I noticed that last year the MOD more than quadrupled the amount it spent on Technical Consultancy, from £23m in 2020/21 to £108m in 2021/22.
Technical consultants now make up 44% of all consultancy fees in 2022, while in 2021 they were only 21%.
Below are two request for information through the Freedom of Information Act:
- Can I have a summary on the expenditure on technical consultants for the MoD in 2022 and 2021 that describes why the amount increased?
- Can I have line-item information for expenditure on technical consultants by the MoD in 2022 and 2021?

Unfortunately we do not hold the information you have requested.
We publish the release Public sector finances, UK - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk) but are unable to split Government spending down to the level of Ministry of Defence (MoD) specific expenditure.
HM Treasury have published their Public Expenditure Statistical Analyses 2022 tables, however the lowest level this presents data to is 'Defence'. Defence is not broken down into MoD spending.
