Thank you for your enquiry.

There are two different types of temporary recruitment:

1. Using an agency for the sourcing and supply of a candidate then employed directly by the ONS for which a placement fee is paid to the agency. The candidate is paid by ONS throughout the contract.

2. Using an agency to supply contingent labour, who work on temporary assignment with ONS, but remain contracted with, and paid by, the agency.

Please see the following answers to your queries:

Q1. Yes, we have used agencies to recruit temporary non-medical non-clinical staff.

Q1a. Total contingent labour spend in the 12 months from February 2022 to January 2023 was £28,583,584.47.

Please note, 'contingent labour' consists of both contractors and agency staff.

We do not hold finder fees for temporary staff who were employed by ONS because for accounting purposes, as they are absorbed in general agency fees.

Q1b. This information is not held. Contingent labour spend is not recorded against job titles/specialism on our systems, but is allocated by business area and programme employing the contingent labour.
