Please can you provide the total number of hotel/tourism accommodation bedspaces by district of the UK?
We said
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request asking for the total number of hotel/tourism accommodation bed spaces by districts of the UK.
Unfortunately, we do not hold information on the number of bed spaces, but we are able to provide the number of hotel/tourism businesses broken down by districts of the UK.
We produce an annual publication called UK Business: Activity, size and location. The data are produced from the Inter Departmental Business Register (IDBR) which holds all businesses registered for VAT and/or PAYE. (The very small businesses that fall below the VAT and PAYE thresholds are not included.) The data, in the publication, are a snapshot of the IDBR taken annually in March. The latest data available are March 2022. Table 1, of the publication, breaks the data down by broad industry group and also geographically down to UK district level.
If, however, broad industry group isn't detailed enough then the data are also disseminated via NOMIS. This data explorer tool will allow you to break the data down geographically to UK districts and in addition, the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Division 55: Accommodation, can be broken down as far as the 5 digit SIC subclasses e.g. Hotels and similar accommodation, holiday centres etc. The data on NOMIS can be accessed by going to the home page and choosing "Query data" under the "Data downloads" section and then choosing "UK business counts" from the "Select data by source" list.
