Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for the production of mortality statistics for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from the death certificate at death registration. We are unable to provide data on vaccinations, as we do no not collect this information and do not have access to NHS care plans or vaccination records. NHS Digital may be better placed to provide this information. They can be contacted via email at enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk.

Measles and Mumps are defined as 'B05' and 'B26' respectively by the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) codes.

The information you have requested is available as part of our explorable dataset available on our NOMIS webservice and contains mortality data between 2013-2019. Mortality statistics are based on underlying cause, we do not hold analysis based on pre-existing conditions.

  • Select the geography (England and Wales, regional or by local authority).
  • Select Age -- All ages or 5 year age bands.
  • Select Gender -- Total or Male/Female
  • Select rates -- All deaths, rates or percentage of population for example.
  • Select cause of death (ICD10 code search is available). 'B05' and 'B26'
  • Select format (Excel or CSV for example)

Prior to publishing this data in NOMIS, this information was published within our annual deaths publication, available via the following link: annual death registrations. This has data available dating back to 2006. Mortality statistics on measles and mumps can be found under Table 5 of the datasets. Please note, table 5 was published separately to the main dataset due to the volume of information included. Please see '2012 Table 5 edition of this dataset' and previous years. Years 2006 -- 2009 are included in table 5.1 as part of a downloadable zip file.

We have presented data in line with our standard 5 year age bands of <1,1-4,5-9,10-14. If you require the data presented as under 16's then we may be able to provide this as a bespoke request. Additionally, we may be able to produce bespoke analysis on pre-existing causes. Such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources and agreement of costs. If you would like to request this bespoke dataset, please contacthealth.data@ons.gov.uk to discuss your enquiry further. Please note, there may be a charge for this work which would be subject to our charging policy.
