We are responsible for mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.
Monthly deaths by area of usual residence are available as part of the following publication: Deaths registered monthly in England and Wales. This provides the number of deaths registered each month by area of usual residence for England and Wales, by region, county, local and unitary authority, and London borough. Data is available from 2006 to October 2020. Unfortunately, these publications do not provide information regarding age and gender.

Deaths by leading causes groupings by month of occurrence, England, 2015 to 2019: This provides the number of deaths by leading causes groupings by month of occurrence in England between 2015 to 2019 and the 5-year average.
Monthly deaths, England and Wales, deaths that occurred between 2001 and 2018: This provides the number of deaths by sex and single year of age in England and Wales from 2001 to 2018. Figures are based on deaths that occurred between 2001 and 2018.
Further analysis regarding monthly deaths for January 2015 to September 2020 by specific cause, area and age would need to be created as bespoke analysis. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held. However, information regarding monthly deaths by cause, sex and age for 2015-2019 may be available to commission as bespoke analysis. Such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources and agreement of costs.
