On the 4th of January 2021, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that England would be falling into a national lockdown. I would like to see the specific forecasts which were shown to him and other politicians who made that decision on that day or prior.

If it exists, I would like to see the daily forecasts for Covid-19 cases which were used to influence the Prime Ministers' decision. These may include statistical forecasts on positive tests results, positivity rate and predicted basic reproduction rate of the virus for the next month, under two opposing circumstances

a – No lockdown

b – Lockdown occurred

Thank you for your request.

We do not produce forecasts for COVID-19 cases. Therefore we do not hold the information you have requested.

The Scientific Pandemic Influenza Group on Modelling (SPI-M) and the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) would have advised the Prime Minister regarding this. Therefore, the Cabinet Office (CO) or Number 10 would be better placed to assist with your request. They can be contacted via email at foi-team@cabinetoffice.gov.uk and by contact from at Contact Number 10 respectively.
