You asked

Please could you provide me with information detailing the number of police officers killed on duty between 2010-2022 (or as most recent as possible).

Please only include deaths whilst on duty if this is possible.

Thank you for your enquiry.

ONS mortality data comes from the information collected at death registration. All of the conditions mentioned on the death certificate are coded using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10). We do not hold analysis of all-cause mortality by occupation and would be unable to advise if the deceased had been on duty at the time of their death as this is not recorded on the death certificate.

We can create deaths by specific ICD-10 code and occupation as a user requested data set. Custom extracts and tabulations of mortality data are available to order from the HALE customer Services team. This service is outside of the FOI framework.

User requested datasets are subject to disclosure control, legal frameworks, resources, and agreement to costs under the ONS Charging policy. If you would like to discuss a custom data ser please contact Health.data@ons.gov.uk

We do hold the following user requested data sets.

Number of Police Officer Suicides in England and Wales, 2001 to 2013 - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk)

Number of police officer suicides in England and Wales, 2015 to 2016 - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk)

Coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths by occupation, England and Wales - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk)

Deaths involving Coronavirus (COVID-19) by occupation (those aged 20 to 49 years), England and Wales: deaths registered between 9 March and 28 December 2020 - Office for National Statistics (ons.gov.uk)
