Please provide Quarterly statistics for UK Large Goods Vehicle Drivers (SOC 8211) broken down by nationality or country of birth over the past 10 years.

This will allow me to understand how many Continental European drivers may have left the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic and how this compares to the evolution of the nationality profile since the Financial Crisis in 2008/2009.

Breakdown by age for SOC 8211 in 5-year increments (19-24, 25-29, ... 55-59, 60-64, 65+); both latest available data and the same for Q4 2019, 2015, 2010 and 2005.

This will allow me to interpret the age profile change pre-COVID-19 to current, and then compare this against the evolution of the age profile over the preceding 15 years. It will enable me to understand if retirement of the higher age ranges has increased dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic and if the overall LGV driver workforce has been aging over the past 15 years.

Thank you for your query regarding HGV drivers in the UK.

We do not routinely publish statistics for detailed breakdowns of the characteristics of individuals in different occupations. However, in response to a recent request to our ad-hoc scheme, we have just published an analysis which contains some of the information you have requested. This is available via the following link:

https://www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket/peopleinwork/employmentandemployeetypes/adhocs/14398hgvdriversbynationalityand10yearagegroup

We also published an article in October 2021 looking at the characteristics of changes in numbers in the occupation, accessible via the following link:

Further analysis can be requested from our ad-hoc request service by contacting our social surveys team (socialsurveys@ons.gov.uk). Please note, the level of detail included in the request above was chosen to give sensible granularity of breakdowns based on the sample size available. These services are subject to legal frameworks, resources, disclosure controls, and an agreement of costs in line with our Charging Policy.
