Unfortunately, we do not hold information on serious assaults in prison custody. We publish data relating to crime statistics from two main sources: The Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) and Police Recorded Crime (PRC). Neither of these sources hold data relating to assaults in prison custody.
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) obtains data on serious prisoner-on-prisoner assaults in custody as well as serious assaults on prison staff, in their Safety in custody: quarterly update to June 2022. However, this data is not disaggregated by the type of serious assault committed.
