Thurrock residents working in and travelling to London

Estimates of region of residence and region of workplace are available from the Annual Population Survey (APS), which is a survey based on interviews with members of private households in the UK.

The Annual People Survey identifies respondents' location of residence at various levels of detail, including regional and local authority level. Respondents identified as being in employment are also asked about their region of workplace and their usual method of travel to work.

Estimates of region of workplace by local authority of residence, or the transportation method used to travel to work are available to order via our bespoke services. Such services are subject to legal frameworks, resources and agreement of costs, subject to our charging policy. If you would like to request this bespoke dataset, please contact our social surveys team at socialsurveys@ons.gov.uk to discuss your enquiry further. Please note, we are not be able to offer any information about ULEZ, as data showing this is not held.

Our Census 2021 responses were collected during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a period of unparalleled and rapid change. The national lockdown, associated guidance, and furlough measures affected the travel to work topic in particular. The associated download named "Method used to travel to work" shows method used to travel to work for all usual residents (in Thurrock) aged 16 years and over in employment the week before the census, which may be helpful to you. It is important to note that data collected in Census 2021 may not be representative of work journeys for 2023.

Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) charges

Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZ) are a Transport for London (TfL) initiative. Although the Census collected car ownership data, we did not ask if cars were ULEZ compliant. We would therefore recommend contacting TfL for this information via the following contact form.
