As per Week 43 of the below weekly publication, Figure1/2 that included Pneumonia/Influenza deaths alongside their 5 year average has been updated.

The update is useful, but limits two important data points:

  1. It has removed the Pneumonia/Influenza 5 year average

  2. It has removed the Pneumonia/Influenza ONLY deaths

Please can both be reinstated to the data table to Figure 2, or be made available through some other weekly publication.

Moreover, please could you provide a weekly time series through W1-53 for the Pneumonia/Influenza mentioned 5 year average as a one off data file.

Thank you for your request.

Please see the excel download file underneath Figure 2 in the following publication: Provisional weekly deaths in England and Wales.

This provides deaths where influenza and pneumonia were the cause of death (due to influenza and pneumonia), deaths where influenza and pneumonia is mentioned anywhere on the death certificate (deaths involving influenza and pneumonia), and a comparison to the five-year average. This data is provided on a weekly basis.

More in-depth analysis, including a split of flu and pneumonia figures for England and Wales and comparisons of deaths from COVID-19 with deaths from flu and pneumonia are available via the following link: Deaths due to coronavirus (COVID-19) compared with deaths from influenza and pneumonia, England and Wales.
