You asked

How many deaths have been caused:

  • alone

  • in part by Covid-19 in under 45s in the UK since 2019?

If you're able to provide a breakdown by Jan-Dec year as well, that would be super.

We said

Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for the production of mortality statistics for deaths registered in England and Wales. This is driven by information collected from death certificates at death registration. National Records Scotland (NRS) and Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. They can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

We routinely publish the provisional number of deaths due to and involving Coronavirus (COVID-19) and in our Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales weekly publication. This includes breakdowns by age, for example, in table 7.

Final figures for 2022 and prior are available in our annual Deaths registered in England and Wales release.

Further analysis on this topic can be requested via our bespoke services route. Information on COVID-19 deaths by age band and month along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order. These services are subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, in line with the ONS Charging Policy.
