Thank you for your request.

We have produced the following dataset: Vital statistics in the UK: births, deaths and marriages. This dataset contains historic birth and death statistics up to 2019 and data is broken down by each country in the UK.

To publish this dataset ONS collaborate with N. Ireland (NISRA: Northern Island Statistical Research Agency) and Scotland (NRS: National Records Scotland) to collate headline figures for the UK. Due to individual publishing timelines, analysis of UK figures for 2020 are expected to be published January 2022. Therefore, we do not currently hold totals for Scotland and Northern Ireland for 2020.

Our annual mortality figures for England and Wales for 2020 have not yet been finalised. The annual deaths registered series dataset is scheduled for release in summer 2021.

However, according to the following publication, Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional, the provisional number of deaths registered between Week 1 of 2020 (ending 3 January 2020) and Week 53 of 2020 for England and Wales is 614,114 deaths registered in England and Wales. 576,624 of these deaths were registered in England and 37,790 of these were registered in Wales.

We have also published a blog with provisional year-end figures from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020 for England and Wales, accessible via the following link: https://blog.ons.gov.uk/2021/01/12/counting-deaths-involving-coronavirus-a-year-in-review/
