Please supply the following information on the percentage of UK citizens in the immigrating population:

  1. Are UK citizens returning from overseas included in this figure for inward migration?
  2. If UK citizens are included, what is the percentage?
  3. If UK citizens are not included, why not?

Thank you for your request.

We hold analysis on long-term international migration estimates, which are published on our website and accessible via the following link: Long-term international migration estimates. The dataset shows migration flows to and from the UK, quarterly tables, and charts taken from the International Passenger Survey (IPS). This includes both the inflow and outflow of UK citizens and a figure for the difference between inflow and outflow. Therefore, in answer to Q1, UK citizens returning from overseas are included in our figures for inward migration. For Q2, as requirements differ it is better to calculate the percentage yourself depending on your specific requirement.

For other migration data that we publish, please see the following link to our international migration table of contents: International migration - table of contents.
