Could you provide me with ICD codings (+ count) for all deaths within England & Wales within the past year (31st Aug 2019 - most current dataset, as of 31st Aug 2020).

Eg. Code = 429.2, Death Count = 75,000

Data column headers specifying each category of death certificate coding would also be appreciated, as would more detailed statistical breakdown (i.e per-month data etc).

Naturally, a count for every ICD code is not required, but rather, only counts for classified/logged codes RE deaths.

Unfortunately, we would be unable to provide you with full ICD-10 breakdown of deaths in August 2019 to August 2020. In order to fulfil this request, we would need use a high level of statistical skill and judgement in order to create bespoke analysis for you. Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Public Authorities are not obligated to create information in order to respond to requests. We therefore consider this to be information not held.

For 2020 data, our new Monthly Mortality Analysis report for England and Wales will provide provisional death registration data for England and Wales, broken down by sex, age and country. Includes deaths due to COVID-19 and leading causes of death. Data is available for July and August 2020.

Our Deaths registered weekly in England and Wales, provisional publication is updated weekly and provides respiratory and COVID-19 deaths.

You can also find further information on Death registrations not involving coronavirus (COVID-19): England and Wales which will provide Provisional counts of the number of total deaths and deaths not involving the coronavirus (COVID-19), between 28 December 2019 and 10 July 2020. This includes deaths disaggregated by age and sex; by region of England, and Wales, and place of death; and for underlying causes of death and deaths involving leading causes.

Our Deaths registered in England and Wales: 2019 will provide registered deaths by age, sex, selected underlying causes of death and the leading causes of death.

There are also explorable datasets in NOMIS using ONS data where users are able to filter death registration data by age, date, ICD10 code and low level geographies for 2013 to 2019.

A full ICD-10 code breakdown for deaths in 2019 may be available to commission as bespoke analysis. Such services would be subject to legal frameworks, disclosure controls, resources and agreement of costs.
