You asked

We are doing research about the impact of covid-19 on cybercrime in UK. We wonder if you could provide us the fraud and computer misuse offences recorded by Action Fraud, UK Finance or referred to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau by month from January 2013 to July 2022. And it would be better if you could provide these data by month and by police force areas, that will be very helpful to our study.

We have found a previous user requested dataset at ONS website https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/adhocs/13227fraudandcomputermisuseoffencesrecordedbyactionfraudukfinanceorreferredtothenationalfraudintelligencebureaujanuary2019toseptember2020. However, it covers only the months from January 2019 to September 2020.

Thank you for your enquiry.

Within our Crime in England and Wales: Quarterly data tables we publish monthly Total fraud and computer misuse offences in the monthly worksheet from January 2020 to December 2021. We also publish more detailed breakdowns of fraud offences referred to NFIB by Action Fraud, Cifas and UK Finance by quarter in the Current QT1 - PRC by Quarter worksheet in the quarterly data tables. Both tables are for England and Wales but this data is not held by police force area.

Unfortunately, other than the Fraud and computer misuse offences recorded by Action Fraud, UK Finance or referred to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau January 2019 to September 2020 dataset, we do not hold data prior to 2019.

The fraud and computer misuse offences data we publish is sourced from the Home Office who bring together Action Fraud, Cifas and UK Finance data. They may be able to assist you further and can be contacted via: CrimeandPoliceStats@homeoffice.gov.uk.
