You asked

I would like flu related deaths (not coronavirus) in the UK for Jan 2019-Jan 2020.

We said

Thank you for your enquiry.

We are responsible for the provision of mortality statistics for England and Wales. National Records Scotland (NRS) and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) are responsible for statistics pertaining to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Therefore, we do not hold the requested data for the whole of the UK. Should you wish to obtain this data from NRS and NISRA, they can be contacted at foi@nrscotland.gov.uk and info@nisra.gov.uk respectively.

Our NOMIS webservice provides deaths involving influenza from January 2019 to December 2019, and January 2020 to December 2020 for England and Wales. These have been pasted in the following table:

Also, Figure 2 of the following publication, Deaths Registered Weekly in England and Wales provides deaths due to and involving influenza and pneumonia for January 2020, which may be useful. We have also pasted this in the following table:

We use the term  "due to influenza and pneumonia" when referring only to deaths where that illness was recorded as the underlying cause of death. We use the term "involving influenza and pneumonia" when referring to deaths that had that illness mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, whether as an underlying cause or not.

Unfortunately, we do not hold analysis showing mortality rates involving flu deaths from January 2019 to January 2020 specifically.  In order to fulfil this request, we would need use a high level of statistical skill and judgement in order to create a bespoke analysis or table. We may be able to create a custom output. Information on deaths by specific ICD-10 code and timeframe, along with other special extracts and tabulations of mortality data for England and Wales are available to order (subject to legal frameworks, disclosure control, resources and agreements of costs, where appropriate).

Such enquiries would fall outside of the Freedom of Information regime and should be made to: Health.Data@ons.gov.uk.
