Thank you for your request.

We are responsible for the production of mortality data for England and Wales, this is driven by information collected from death certificates at death registration.

Our data on hospital episodes is obtained from the Hospital Episode Statistics published by NHS Digital with an approximate 3 month delay. We use this raw data to determine pre-existing conditions and general health of individuals, but not to analyse recent hospitalisations due to specific causes. Therefore, the requested information would need to be created by our organisation and consequently is not held. As we obtain this information from NHS Digital, they would be better placed to answer your queries. They can be contacted at enquiries@nhsdigital.nhs.uk.
