Thank you for your Freedom of Information regarding hospitality businesses in England. Your request was regarding the number of businesses that hold a music licence, do not hold a music licence and those that hold a music licence and have closed.

Unfortunately, we do not hold data on music licences and cannot help on this occasion.

For information, we do have data on the number of businesses registered for VAT and/or PAYE and this information is broken down by industry. The data are published annually in our UK Business: Activity, size and location publication

We also produce another annual publication, Business Demography, which shows the number of business births, deaths and survival rates (up to 5 years). Again, this is broken down by industry.

If the information in the publications is of interest and you would like to discuss it further, please contact idbrdas@ons.gov.uk.

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) may be able to assist with the statistics you are looking for. They can be contacted via email at enquiries@dcms.gov.uk.
