FOI REF: FOI-2023-1435

You asked

I would like to know how many lone parents there are with twins below the age of three in London, Nottingham and Milton Keynes? How many of these lone parents have other children as well as twins?

We said

Thank you for your freedom of information request regarding lone parent mothers with twins.

Unfortunately, we do not hold the exact information requested.

The Census does not collect information on multiple births. It does tell us how many lone parents with dependent children there are, but not if the children include twins or the age of each dependent child.

We have extracted a dataset from our Create a custom dataset tool, which provides the number of lone parents with dependent children by sex for Nottingham, Milton Keynes (Local Authorities) and London (region). This can be found in the associated download 'Lone parents by sex and city.xls'. We hope this will be useful for you.

Our birth statistics can provide the number of sole registrations (not lone mothers) and numbers of multiple birth each year that are published - but the age of children and whether other siblings are living there is not possible from this.

It may be possible to produce a bespoke dataset that provides more detail than the dataset provided. Please note such services are subject to disclosure controls, resources, legal frameworks and an agreement of costs in line with our Charging Policy.  Further details can be found via the following link: ONS ad hoc tables service.
